Types Of Trampolines For Toddlers And Kids

Types-Of-Trampolines-For-Toddlers-And-KidsIn order to choose the best trampoline, you should know about the different types of trampolines available for kids. Here they are:

  1. Round trampolines

These are commonly found in family backyards and are mostly used for recreational purposes. Round trampolines are the safest of all as there is an even distribution of force and they shove the user towards the center if they get close to the edges while jumping. The circular shape causes each of the springs to evenly stretch around the whole circumference.

  1. Rectangular trampolines

They are usually used by experts and professionals. This shape provides users with increased height and gives a greater rebound. It is made of heavy steel to withstand the effects of such rebounds.

  1. Mini trampolines

Also known as rebounders, these are designed specifically for indoor use. They are small enough to be stored away in a closet when not in use. Rebounders help relieve stress from the calf muscles and the lower portion of the body often associated with exercises such as running.

In order to select the right one among these various types of trampolines, you may follow certain criteria.

How to Find the Best Trampoline for Kids and Baby

How-to-Find-the Best-Trampoline-for-Kids-and-BabyQuality is the most important consideration in this category. Even an entry-level mini trampoline must meet a minimum quality standard. Otherwise, the product could be dangerous to your little jumper and those around them.

To ensure that you’re purchasing the best possible mini trampoline, there are several key points to look for in each trampoline review or trial report.

  1. Bounce. The quality of the jump a child receives is based on the quality of the springs being used. You want something that falls into the “Goldilocks Zone” for a bounce with younger kids. The jump mat shouldn’t be too soft, but it shouldn’t be too hard either. That will take pressure off the child’s joints while providing a balanced jump.
  2. Spring Quality. Even though most of the trampolines in this category are highly affordable, you’ll find that the quality of the springs being used can vary by a wide margin. A low-quality spring will lose its shape very quickly. When that happens the balance of the jump will be altered. If a spring bends too far out of shape, it may even detach from the frame.
  3. Jump Mat. A jump mat should have an extremely tight weave to support the activity of a jumper. Children can be rough on equipment. A tight weave will stand up to the wear-and-tear better and prevent the trampoline from sagging over time. The jump mat should be high enough off the floor that it doesn’t bottom out as well.
  4. Spacing. Mini trampolines are usually 36-48 inches in circumference. Virtually all will be a round shape, but there is the occasional oval trampoline in this category. Because they are almost all exclusively used indoors, the main space consideration is your floor-to-ceiling height. The last thing you want is to have your child smash their head into the ceiling. Unless you have a 7-foot ceiling, you should be fine here.
  5. Assembly. The best mini trampolines are easy to assemble. Just attach the legs and springs to the frame and you’re ready to go. Be careful with the cheaper models in this category, especially if they are designed to fold up for storage. Not only can the assembly process cause an injury, but so can the storage process.
  6. Storage. For children, if something is out of sight, then it is out of mind. To keep them happily bouncing, you’ll want a trampoline that can work with your space and stay out all the time. Most are small enough that they can slide under a bed or fit into a toy closet if you need to put it away.

The Best Toddler Trampoline on the Market

The-Best-Toddler-Trampoline I have a love/hate relationship with trampolines. I can still remember the first time I got hurt on one. Sixth grade, Amy K’s backyard. My knees buckled and slammed into my braces-filled mouth, splitting my bottom lip. It wasn’t a catastrophic injury, but one that produced enough blood to leave a bad taste in my mouth that day and, well, forever.

Flash forward 15 years. My in-laws decided to buy a “safe” trampoline for the grandkids before my children were even born. At the time, I was openly against it.

“They’re so dangerous,” I said.

“But, it’s a lot safer than the trampolines of your day,” they argued.

And it looked to be — no springs, full net sides. But I had a nagging feeling. The injury I suffered had nothing to do with rusty springs and plummeting four feet off a tramp, it was the jumping itself.

Flash forward six years and, of course, bouncing on the trampoline is my kids’ favorite thing to do at their nana’s house. That trampoline that I loathed has provided hours upon hours of entertainment for all the grandkids, ages 3 to 13. Because of that, I reluctantly climbed off my high horse and buckled, so to speak.

I decided to stop resisting and let my kids bounce. I compartmentalized my fears and made myself believe nothing could go wrong with this built-in safety net. A few years of watching them happily bounce at nana’s and I fully boarded the trampoline train. I even took my toddlers to a trampoline park. Many times. We came, we climbed, we bounced, we giggled.

Then I read a Facebook post that sobered my cautiously growing trampoline love. One mom, Kait Ellen, bravely shared her family’s story on Facebook — and in doing so made all my childhood trampoline fears come rushing back.

The Best Baby Trampoline, Kids Trampoline [Update]

The-Best-Baby-Trampoline-Kids-TrampolineThere are a few specifications and technical details that go into choosing the right trampoline for a child. These include:

  • Price: Obviously, you’ll need to know what your budget is before buying. You’ll find toddler trampolines for $80, and others as high as $800. Know your budget before you buy.
  • Radius: The overall jumping space offered. Indoor models will often have a small radius, while outdoor models can be 14 feet in diameter.
  • Weight Capacity: How many kids do you have? Many trampolines are only safe up to a certain weight capacity. If you have multiple kids, always ensure that the weight capacity is appropriate.
  • Enclosure: Do you need an enclosure or not? Enclosures are needed to ensure a child doesn’t fall out of the trampoline, but younger children that don’t bounce much may do better with bar trampolines.
  • Bars: Smaller children that may not have a high level of balance are best suited for a trampoline that has bars to hold onto.
  • Weight: Most parents never think about the weight of the trampoline they buy. If you can’t easily move your trampoline, you won’t be able to bring it indoors if it functions as an indoor / outdoor model. Trampolines with enclosures are often very heavy and will remain outside for most of the year.
  • Height: Entry height is a concern. When younger jumpers are going on the mat, they may need to use a step ladder to enter. There are various heights and some that are so small, a 2 year old will be able to enter with relative ease.
  • Age: Many models will include a recommended maximum age for using a trampoline. This is very important and should be considered by all parents.

The only tip we highly recommend is when a child is growing, you’ll want to choose a trampoline that provides more than enough room for growth. If a child is 7 and the maximum age limit for a trampoline is 7, you may want to buy a different model. Kids grow fast, and a trampoline can provide years of fun.
